Description
Sycamore House is a house dated 1745, located on the north side of Main Road in Parson Drove. It features a main range with a lobby entry plan and a crosswing to the east. The building is constructed of local brick and has a 19th-century slate roof, with an original ridge stack and an end stack on the crosswing. The house is two storeys tall, with three 19th-century casement windows at the first floor and two at the ground floor on either side of the entry, opposite the stack.
Inside, the main range includes a hearth flanked by two early 19th-century cupboards with raised and fielded panels, and round-headed arches with raised key blocks. There is a reeded doorcase adorned with lion's head boss enrichments at the corners, along with early 19th-century panelled shutters. The 18th-century dog-leg staircase features a closed string, turned balusters, square newel posts, and a moulded rail. The floor frame consists of alternating principal and subsidiary joists laid flat and made of substantial scantling. The crosswing contains an inglenook hearth, with a chamfered main beam and joists also laid flat.
