Description

Stonea Farmhouse is a late 17th or early 18th century farmhouse constructed from local gault brick, reused medieval Barnack limestone, limestone rubble, and clunch. It has plain tile roofs. The house is two storeys and attics, with a single-storey rear kitchen and bakehouse wing. The gabled ends have tumbled brick parapets and end stacks, with a large square stack to the kitchen wing. Features include a projecting brick eaves cornice, brick bands between floors, and a plinth with shallow buttresses. There are four first-floor boxed four-paned hung sash windows with segmental brick arches, and two similar ground-floor windows to the right of a 20th-century door. A larger hung sash window with vertical glazing bars is located to the left. Gabled dormer windows are also present. A plaque in the west gable is faintly inscribed with “J C?”, and a fire insurance plaque is above the original door to the rear wing. The interior mainly contains 19th-century details, including an inserted attic floor to the kitchen. There are some 18th-century two-panelled doors and panelling, along with two sealed hearths.
