Description
The Limes is a house built around 1780, constructed of local red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, featuring a rebuilt parapet. The roof is made of asbestos tiles, with tumbled end parapets and end stacks. The building has a T-plan layout and consists of two storeys and attics, with a band at the eaves height and between the storeys. It has a range of five flush frame hung sash windows with glazing bars and open boxing, topped with gauged red brick arches. The central doorway is adorned with a flat hood supported by enriched scroll brackets, and it features a panelled door with a rectangular fanlight that has Gothick glazing bars.
Inside, there is an original open-string staircase with four flights, each tread supported by three turned balusters and finished with a swept and moulded rail. One ground floor room is lined with original panelling in two heights and includes a marble fireplace dating from around 1830. A similar style of panelling is found in one of the bedrooms, which also features a shouldered surround to the overmantle.
