Description
This building is a barn, now used as a store, located at the rear of number 15 on Littleport Main Street. It dates from the late 17th century and was altered in the 19th century. The barn is timber-framed, weatherboarded, and has a roof covered with corrugated iron over reed thatch arranged in a herringbone pattern. It consists of two bays with a cartway opening in the side wall. Inside, the late 17th-century framing is visible in the rear side and right-hand end walls, featuring typical studwork with downward wall bracing. Some parts of the framing have been renewed, and the roof was rebuilt in the 19th century. A date of 1640 is believed to have been carved on one of the timbers. At each end of the barn, there are ranges of dairies, milking parlours, and loose boxes, which are from the 19th century and constructed of gault brick with a pantiled roof. Some doorways have split doors.
