Description
The building at 31 High Street, Wilburton, is a mid to late 18th-century house that has been adapted for use as a post office with a modern ground floor shop. It features narrow, uniform grey brick on the front, with a rendered east gable end wall. The roof is plain tiled and has a west gable stack. There is a simple three-brick eaves cornice and a band between the storeys. The building is two storeys high with an attic and includes two gable dormers. The original first-floor window openings consist of two cross frame casements and a blind window opening, while the ground floor openings have been remodelled to accommodate two modern shop fronts and a doorway. At the rear, there is a stair turret with a parapetted gable, made of similar narrow gault brick. Inside, few original features remain, but the upper three flights and two landings of the staircase are original, featuring a toads-back rail and a square newel, although boarding conceals the balustrade.
