Description
The walls to the Guest Quarters of the Monastery and Ely Porta are a Grade I listed structure dating back to 1082. These walls are made of stone rubble and feature a ridged stone capping. They extend from the southwest corner of the Guest Quarters of the Monastery to the northwest corner of Ely Porta. On the east side, small gardens have been created using stone rubble walls, with some brick, running from the gateway to the Guest Hall, which is the Bishop's residence, to the northeast corner of Ely Porta.
This group of buildings includes the Great Hall (Bishop's residence), the Queen's Hall (Headmaster's House), the wall to the garden of the Bishop's residence, the Guest Quarters of the Monastery, the walls to the Guest Quarters of the Monastery and Ely Porta, the Prior's House (Boarding House of the King's School), Prior Crauden's Chapel, the walls to the garden of the Prior's house, Ely Porta, and the Barn and Storehouse of the Monastery, along with the wall to the Barn and Storehouse. These structures form a group with the Bishop's Palace, the walls to the Bishop's Palace, and Nos 2 to 8 (consecutive) and No 9 (stables to Bishop's Palace), as well as The Gallery. For further context, see the general group description under the Cathedral of The Holy Trinity.
