Description
Nos 35 to 41 on Market Street are part of a range of 18th century brick cottages, which have been painted. Nos 35 and 37 have undergone significant alterations in the 20th century. Nos 39 and 41, which house the Stage Coach Restaurant, served as a staging post until around 1845. A painted coaching sign from the 18th century was found on the front of the first storey and has been restored; it reads: "Lynn, Cambridge and Stage Waggons to the Bull Inn Bishopsgate Street everyday. Isaac March and William Swan proprietors." The building is two storeys high with a total of five window openings. Nos 39 and 41 feature double-hung sash windows with glazing bars on the first storey and a late 18th century or early 19th century shop front on the ground floor. The roof is tiled and has a brick dentil eaves course. In contrast, Nos 35 and 37 have been renovated in the 20th century and now have 20th century metal casement windows and a 20th century interlocking tile roof.
