Description
The George Thomson Building at Leckhampton House, part of Corpus Christi College, is a Grade II listed graduate residence built between 1963 and 1964. Designed by Philip Dowson of Arup Associates, it features a pre-cast concrete frame combined with red brick. The building consists of two blocks connected by a staggered brick link and rises five storeys high. The student rooms are fully glazed and set back behind the concrete frame, which showcases paired vertical elements and emphasizes horizontal lines at both the floor and roof levels. The upper levels have narrower concrete balustrades. The link between the blocks incorporates brick panels and glazing at the junctions. This building is noted for its contribution to modern architecture in Cambridge.
