Description
Harvey Court, part of Gonville and Caius College, is a Grade II* listed building constructed between 1960 and 1962 by architects Sir Leslie Martin and Colin St John Wilson. This student residence features buff brick and bronze cladding with a flat roof, standing three storeys tall plus a basement.
The design includes a raised square courtyard surrounded on three sides by outward-facing windows. The courtyard has canted sides that allow natural light into the breakfast room located below. Each level of accommodation is set back, creating paved terrace areas in front of the rooms. Brick strips separate the rooms, and the full-height glazing is set in timber frames with two lights and a rail at dado height. The upper storeys overhang the outer perimeter, supported by tall brick piers, and there are expressed staircases. Vertical timber slatting is used, with windows positioned behind it.
