Description
The Raised Faculty Block at Cambridge University is a library and teaching space built between 1956 and 1968 by Casson, Conder and Partners. It features Portland stone cladding and a concrete frame with a flat roof. The building is two storeys high and has a "U" shape, raised on pilotis. The floor slab is chamfered and sculpted with round-cornered hollows. There is a long, narrow horizontal strip window located below a cornice band, along with a variety of fenestration that includes some long windows and smaller single-storey windows arranged in an irregular pattern. This building is an integral part of the Sidgwick Avenue layout, which was planned in 1952.
