Description
The fountain in Great Court at Trinity College was erected in 1602 and underwent repairs in 1716. It is an outstanding example of architectural work from that period. Constructed from Cliffe and Clipsham stone ashlar, it was completely rebuilt by Robert Grumbold in 1716 and has been repaired at several later dates. The main basin features a plinth and a solid panelled base, from which Ionic columns rise to support arches and an entablature, topped with ribs and crowned by a Royal lion bearing the Tudor arms. Inside the main basin, there is a stone column that supports two smaller basins. The entire structure is highly decorative and intricately worked.
