Description

The Church of St Andrew, located on High Street in Cherry Hinton, dates from the late 12th century and features a fine 13th-century chancel with impressive internal wall arcading. The church has a rebuilt nave and aisles, along with a west tower that includes late 12th-century responds to the tower arch. It is constructed of flint rubble and Barnack stone, with freestone dressings. The church underwent significant restoration and rebuilding by Sir George Gilbert Scott in 1880. Inside, there is a restored 15th-century screen, 15th-century benches, and a 13th-century font. The second bell, dating from the 14th century, is the oldest in the city. Additionally, there is a good 13th-century piscina and a 19th-century wrought-iron weathervane on the west tower.
