Description
The Coach and Horses Public House, located at 18 and 20 High Street in Trumpington, is a 17th-century building that stands two storeys high with attics. It features a timber-framed and plastered structure topped with a hipped tile roof. The ground floor has been refaced with modern bricks and the building was remodelled in the 18th century. Notable architectural details include a dentilled wooden eaves cornice supported by some carved brackets from the 17th century, as well as two gabled projecting blocks at the back and an old chimney stack. The chimney on the north end has grouped diagonal shafts that have been shortened and replaced with a later top. An early 19th-century brick west wing has sash windows with glazing bars and a hipped slate roof. Inside, the pub contains several rooms with 17th-century panelling, a fine staircase, and some 18th-century fittings. The Coach and Horses is part of a group with Nos 18 to 30 (even) and No 55.
