Description
Southchurch Rectory is a large two-storey brick house built around 1830-1835, with extensions added in the early 1850s. It features a low-pitched hipped slate roof with wide eaves and a band at the floor level. The south garden front has six bays, with the two right-hand bays being part of the original house. The windows are sashes with glazing bars and flat ribbed brick arches. The four left-hand bays were built in the same style but include a large mid-19th century canted bay at the center of the ground floor. The north front is asymmetrical, with a whitewashed first floor, sashes, and a doorcase topped with a flat hood. There are two-storey lower hipped roof wings to the west. Inside, there is a simple geometric staircase.
