Description

Woodgate House is a 16th and 17th century house located on the south side of Maxey High Street. The building is constructed of long-coursed stone with a steeply pitched Collyweston stone roof, featuring coped gable ends. The west end of the roof is at a slightly higher level. It is two storeys and has an attic, with a four-window front. The west end features moulded stone mullion windows, one and three-lights in width, with cornices and leaded panes. Two ground-floor bays have splayed sashes with glazing bars. The remaining windows are modern, with three and four-lights and casements. A modern door is located on the left-hand side. Ashlar chimney stacks are set to the end and ridge, and feature cornices. A moulded stone window and a dated gable tablet are visible at the west end. At the rear, a chamfered arched doorway has a hood mould and a small quatrefoil window above, both likely reusing old materials. Interior features include stopped chamfer ceiling beams with run-out stops, and fireplace bressumers.
