Description
This building is an outbuilding located immediately north of Orton Hall, dating from the 17th century to early 18th century. It is constructed from coursed stone rubble with flush quoins and features a steeply pitched Collyweston stone roof with coped gable ends. The building has large ashlar grouped stacks over the gable ends, complete with cornices. The southern stack includes a sundial dated 1652. The structure is one storey with an attic, and it has three modern hipped dormers and modern casement windows. There is an 18th-century extension to the north, made of coursed stone with a lower roof, which has four hipped dormers and modern ground floor windows.
A notable feature is the reset arched doorway that links the outbuilding to the house to the south. This doorway is from the 16th century and has a segmental arch with a drip mould, a cornice, and a semi-circular tympanum topped with a finial. It also displays shields of arms of Talbot and Raynor, and it is said to have originated from Fotheringhay.
