Description
The Manor House, a 16th-century building, is constructed from coursed stone rubble and features a steeply pitched modern pantile roof. It has two storeys and an attic, arranged in an asymmetrical H-shaped plan with five bays and projecting gabled wings. The right-hand wing projects slightly, and there is a two-storey gabled porch located off-centre, which includes a moulded Tudor arched doorway with a cornice. The windows have moulded stone frames, some retaining their mullions and cornices. The right-hand wing features a three-light wood mullion window with leaded panes, and there is a fielded panel door. At the rear, the wings project, and there is a massive external stack off-centre, which has set-offs and is topped with ashlar stacks and cornices. The gables are adorned with moulded stone coping.
Inside, there is a 17th-century dog-leg staircase with moulded balusters and square newels that rises through three floors. The hall contains a wide fireplace with a cambered timber bressumer, which is chamfered and has chamfered stone jambs. The south wing includes four moulded stone chimney pieces, featuring Tudor arches or flat heads. The building is illustrated in the National Monuments Record and in Volume II of the Victoria County History.
