Description
This is a 17th-century manor house situated on Russell Hill in Thornhaugh. The house is constructed of coursed stone with a steeply pitched roof of Collyweston stone, featuring coped gable ends. It has two storeys and an attic, with a five-bay front. The first floor has two-light wood mullion and transom casement windows. The ground floor has two-light stone mullion windows, each with a cornice above. A moulded string course runs below the eaves and is raised over the first-floor windows. The central doorway is distinguished by a moulded stone architrave and entablature, incorporating a pulvinated frieze. A small hipped dormer window punctuates the roof. Internal end stacks are topped with cornices. The rear elevation reveals two three- and four-light stone mullion windows. A long, 19th-century stone wing extends from the rear, also featuring stone mullion windows. A rear staircase wing includes an open-well staircase with heavy, moulded balusters, a moulded handrail, and square reveals. The hall boasts ceiling beams with ovolo moulded chamfers.
