Description

Balcony House is a 17th-century house largely rebuilt in the 18th century, with the addition of a porch incorporating stone details from another building. It is constructed of coursed stone with a steeply pitched Collyweston stone roof and coped gable ends. The house has two storeys and an attic, and features a three-window front. A two-storey ashlar porch dominates the centre, with a moulded round arched doorway and a stone balustrade to a balcony above. A moulded stone mullion window is located on the first floor of the porch. The remaining windows are 3-light casements with leaded panes, set within keyblocked lintels. Two old hipped dormers with leaded casements flank a larger central dormer, which contains a door leading to the balcony. A 17th/18th-century wing at the rear creates an L-shaped plan. Inside the main range is an 18th-century staircase with turned balusters, a moulded string, and a portion with a pulvinated frieze.
