Description
Numbers 13 and 15 is a 17th-century, two-storey and attic, L-shaped box timber-framed house that was cased in brick in the 18th century. The front elevation is stuccoed, with a shop front added around 1860-70. The original timber framing can still be seen in the roof structure, the short rear wing, the south gable end, and some interior walls, including stud partitioning. The gable end has slate roofs. The rear wing features a brick plate band, a blocked casement, and early 19th-century sash windows. The 19th-century front elevation includes a double plate glass shop front with sidelights that angle into the doorway. It has a pilaster frame with carved console brackets on either side of a boxed fascia that supports a moulded cornice. On the first floor, there are two sash windows with architrave surrounds, which are screened by a tent-shaped canopy with a limited valance, supported by a thin iron upright wing from the shop cornice. The left-hand first-floor window is a rectangular two-light wooden bay with a fretted eaves band and a pediment. Original lamps are mounted on scrolled brackets at the ends of the shop cornice.
