Description
The barn at Streatleybury Farm is a large structure dating from the 17th century. It is built using timber framing and is covered with weatherboarding, topped by an old clay tile roof that has slates on the lower part of the west slope. The barn features a five-bay plan with two aisles and has opposed entrances. The south end of the barn is half hipped, and there is a small dormer-type insertion into the slope over the west aisle. The original framing is largely intact, although some rafters have been replaced. The roof has double purlins, with the middle section windbraced. There are arch braces connecting the main posts to the lower purlin and main ties, and queen posts extend from the lower main ties to the upper collars.
