Description

No. 56 Shortmead Street is a 19th-century building that has been refaced from an earlier structure. It features colourwashed plaster and stands two storeys high, topped with a slate roof behind a parapet. The front has four sash windows with marginal glazing bars, each set within an architrave surround. On the ground floor, from left to right, there is a single sash window similar to those above, a doorway with a cornice supported by consoles, a 19th-century double-fronted shop with a bracketed cornice, and a simple plank door on the right. This building is included for its group value with other nearby structures.
