Description

Park Farm Dairy is a former dairy building, now a slightly isolated part of the Park Farm complex, dated 1900. It was built for Herbrand, the 11th Duke of Bedford, and appears to have been rebuilt on the site of an earlier structure, as indicated by a plan of the farmstead from around 1830. The building features a high red brick plinth, applied timber framing with plaster infill, and ashlar dressings, topped with clay tile roofs.

The design is a symmetrical single-storeyed cross plan. The south elevation has a central gabled block that is taller than the flanking wings. The gable attic projects over a verandah supported by timber, which shelters three pairs of French windows. The attic includes three openings with louvred shutters. Each flanking wing has a doorway beneath a flat-roofed open porch next to the central gable, along with a two-light mullioned window. The porches are adorned with ornamental timber balustrading on their roofs.

The other elevations feature large mullion and transom windows. The side wings have tall, slightly projecting brick chimney stacks on the north elevation, both topped with ornamental moulded shafts. The gables have deep verges with plain bargeboards and moulded drop finials. The dairy is situated in an ornamental octagonal site that is bounded by a ha-ha.
