Description

No 1 Station Road is a house that is now part of a commercial premises. It likely dates from the 17th century but was refronted in the 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is timber-framed and clad in red brick laid in Flemish bond, with a stucco finish, and has a 20th-century interlocking concrete tile roof. It has two storeys and consists of one bay, with a single-storey rear outshut added in the 17th century.

The building features a plinth and a platt band. On the left side, there is a step up to a six-panel door set in a reveal, which is framed by a wooden architrave with fluted pilasters and a console-bracketed canopy. To the right of the door, there is a boarded-up window, and above it is a small-paned wooden casement window from the late 19th or early 20th century.

Inside, the timber frame is mainly visible in the original rear wall and on the first floor, showcasing jowelled wall posts, a mid-rail, wall plates, studs, and tie beams, with vertical posts supporting collars. The right-hand truss is a double one, which likely indicates that No 1 was built next to an existing neighboring property on its right. The ground floor has a boxed spine beam and some old floorboards. The adjoining building, No 1 Park Road, is not considered to have special architectural or historic interest.
