Description
The boundary wall to the churchyard of St George's Parish Church is likely a remnant of a 15th or 16th century building associated with the Hospital of St John the Baptist. It is constructed from ironstone with clunch repairs and features tile slips. There is a chamfered ironstone plinth near the ground level on the churchyard side. The medieval section of the wall measures approximately 6.5 metres long and 0.8 metres high, and it has been integrated into a 19th century red brick boundary wall that rises to about 1.8 metres. The two ends of the medieval wall mark the corners of the original building. At the northeast end, there is a trace of a return on the plinth, while at the southwest end, evidence of the return wall is visible on the southeast side, adjacent to Griffin Farm.
