Description

Nos 53 to 57 on Bedford Road are a group of cottages with historical significance. Number 57 dates back to the 17th century and features a roughcast exterior with mock timber-framing. It has two storeys and an old clay tile roof, along with two small casement windows that have glazing bars. A notable feature is the fine red brick chimney stack, which has three flues set at right angles. Numbers 53 and 55 are likely from the 18th century and form an L-shaped wing attached to the north gable end of No 57. These two-storey cottages are slightly lower than No 57, with No 53 constructed from colourwashed brick and No 55 made of red brick, topped with a hipped roof.
