Description
This building is a combined barn and watermill located to the west of Number 37 in Southcott Village. The barn likely dates from the 18th century, while the watermill was added to the western end during the early 19th century. It features a timber frame and weatherboarding on a brick ground floor, with brick extensions on the east and north sides. The roof is partly covered with slate and partly with synthetic tiles. The heavy timber frame includes two sets of purlins, with queen struts supporting the lower purlins, and straight braces.
At ground level, there is a wheel-pit formed by an internal brick wall that extends the full height of the plinth, and a small rear gable is situated above the wheel pit. The south elevation displays a loading door, a bricked-up culvert, and windows with wooden surrounds, along with brick diagonal buttresses. Some machinery remains inside, along with trap-doors, ladders, and grain bins.
