Description
The building comprises a village hall and a former school, constructed in 1868 by the Duke of Bedford, with some modernisation in 1911. It is built of gault brick with a tile roof and some reconstituted stone dressings. The school room presents a gable end to the High Street. This gable features a projecting gablet above a clock dated 1911; the gablet is formed by the continuation of a raised eaves course from the side elevations. It contains two three-light windows with mullions and transoms, separated by a central buttress. The south elevation incorporates a school house in a cross-wing arrangement. The central two-storey projecting gable is dated 1868 and has a ground floor canted bay with a six-light casement and a first floor with a three-light window corbelled over. The cross wing has five-light windows on each of its two floors. A lean-to hood covers the doorway between the gables. The building features several tall, single and double shafted chimneys.
