Description
The Parish Church of All Saints is a 15th-century church constructed from coursed limestone rubble, situated prominently opposite Odell Castle. The church features a chancel, a double-aisled nave, and a west tower. The chancel consists of two bays and includes sedilia, a piscina, and a priest's door, along with a 15th-century screen. The nave has four bays with a clerestory above, which contains four two-light windows on each side, and is topped with a low-pitched roof supported by carved corbels. The north aisle has three three-light side windows and one window at each end, while the south aisle windows are similar but taller, featuring a trefoiled ogee-headed piscina at the southeast end. The porch is notable for its tierceron star vault. The tower is monumentally proportioned, consisting of four stages with clasping buttresses, paired transomed two-light belfry openings, a tracery frieze, and pinnacles. Inside, there is an octagonal 15th-century font, a 17th-century gallery and screens under the tower arch, 17th-century pews, a 15th-century rood screen, fragments of 15th-century stained glass, and monuments from the 17th and 18th centuries dedicated to the Alston family.
