Description
Nos. 280, 281, and 282 on The Green are cottages that were originally built as a workhouse in 1757 through public subscription. The cottages at Nos. 280 and 281 are finished in colour-washed rough cast, while No. 282 is constructed from red brick, which may be encasing a timber frame. They feature a clay tile roof and have a five-room plan spread over two storeys and attics.
On the ground floor, there are two 2-light and two 3-light casement windows with glazing bars. The first floor has similar windows, along with an additional 2-light casement on No. 281. The attic includes three gabled dormers, each with 2-light casements that also have glazing bars. The entrances consist of three plank doors set in moulded surrounds, each topped with small gabled bracketed hoods. The buildings have one red brick chimney stack and an integral red brick stack on the south gable end.
