Description
Octagon Farmhouse is a house built in the early 19th century for the Duke of Bedford. It resembles a design from around 1800 by R. Salmon for Francis, the 5th Duke of Bedford, for a house in a different parish. The farmhouse appears to have undergone later alterations. It is constructed of red brick and features a slate roof that is hipped on the main block and gabled on the projecting blocks. The main block has an octagonal plan and consists of two storeys and an attic. There is a two-storey block that projects from the west elevation and a one-storey block with attics that projects from the north elevation. The windows are mostly casements with three lights and glazing bars, set under cambered heads. The south and east elevations are blank. The original six-panel front door is located on the northeast elevation, accessed by a flight of steps and covered by a flat-roofed wooden porch. There are two red brick stacks at the center of the octagonal block, flanking a double-sided roof light.
