Description
The Parish Church of St. Peter is a significant building constructed from coursed limestone rubble. The earliest feature that can be dated is the three-bay north aisle, where the uneven arches of the arcade were cut from the earlier nave wall in the early 13th century. Some of the original wall was transformed into piers, which were adorned with stiff leaf capitals. The chancel arch also dates from this period. The two-bay south arcade is more elevated and was built later in the 13th century, featuring octagonal piers. The north chapel, dating from the 14th century, has a very tall arch. The west tower, also from the 14th century, includes a recessed 15th-century octagonal spire. This tower is embellished with four corner pinnacles connected to the spire by slender flying buttresses, and it has three tiers of lucarnes. The clerestory, dating from the 15th century, adds to the church's architectural interest.
