Description
Kempston Grange is a house built around 1845, likely for Henry Littledale. It is constructed of yellow brick and features hipped slate roofs. The building has a complex, roughly L-shaped plan and stands two storeys tall. The design is asymmetrical on all sides. Most windows on the main elevations are sash windows with glazing bars set in colourwashed rendered moulded surrounds. The larger ground floor windows have moulded cornices. Decorative cut brackets are present at the eaves of the main elevations. The main entrance is on the east elevation, featuring a large projecting porch made of colourwashed stucco, with paired pilasters topped by a plain architrave, a frieze with pairs of volutes, and a cornice. The south elevation includes a large canted bay window on the right side, which is surrounded by a verandah supported by cast iron trellis-work. The house has a variety of brick chimney stacks. Inside, the southeast room on the ground floor retains a carved marble fireplace with an overmantel mirror, along with plasterwork decoration on the cove and ceiling.
