Description

OAKLEY CHURCH LANE TL 05 SW 9/273 CHURCH OF ST MARY 13.7.1964 - I

Church of coursed limestone rubble with old clay tile roof to chancel. The base of the West tower and the western end of the nave are late C12. The nave was originally of three bays, the east bay added later. The north arcade of two bays is early C13. The S. arcade is slightly later. The remainder is Perpendicular; the top of the tower, two storey south porch and battlements. The north chapel has a painted screen depicting Christ seated on a rainbow. There is a complete set of buttressed pews.
