Description
The Garden House and alcove seat, located immediately north of the Rectory in Areley Kings, is a small summer house or gazebo dating from the early 18th century. It features Flemish bond brickwork with burnt headers and a plain tiled roof. The structure is two storeys high and consists of a single bay with a coped gable. The gable contains a six-panelled doorway with a pedimented head, which is dated 1904 to commemorate the building's restoration. Above the doorway is a sash window with a segmentally arched brick head and a crest in the apex of the gable, situated above a string course. There is a stack on the side of the roof and an external staircase on the west side that provides access to the upper storey. Behind the garden house is an alcove seat that overlooks the River Severn. This alcove seat is made of red brick, plastered inside, and features a hemispherical segmental dome with tile cladding and a wide segmental arch at the front.
