Description

The Valentia Arms Hotel is likely a conversion of three houses into a hotel, dating from the mid-18th century, with extensions added in the early and mid-19th century, along with some late 20th-century alterations. The building features a combination of brick, sandstone ashlar stucco, and coursed sandstone rubble, topped with a tiled roof.

On the left side, the early 19th-century section has a hipped roof and stands two storeys high, with a parapet and a moulded cornice. It includes two full-height canted bay windows flanking a 2-light casement window. The central entrance is rusticated and features a 19th-century ledged and boarded door.

The central part of the hotel, which is from the 18th century, also has two storeys and two windows with glazing bar sashes beneath plastered wedge lintels. It includes a pedimented wooden doorcase with a two-leaf, six-panel door. The left section is from the mid-19th century and is gabled to the right, set back to the left, with two storeys and a total of three windows, mainly of two lights under square heads with labels. The ground floor has two three-light windows under square heads with labels, and the central entrance features a two-leaf door beneath a Tudor arch.

At the rear, the early 19th-century section reveals exposed sandstone ashlar and has a pedimented wooden doorcase with fluted pilasters.
