Description
The Gaunt family memorial is a chest tomb located about 3 yards north-east of the vestry of the Church of St James. It dates from the mid-19th century and is constructed of ashlar stone. The tomb features Gothic details, including a moulded plinth and flat capping. The corner piers have cusped lancet panels, and there are shaped inscription panels on each side.
The north panel commemorates Elizabeth Gaunt, who died in 1829, and Ann Gaunt, though the rest of the inscription is illegible. The south panel lists William Knight, who died in 1837, Thomas Gaunt, Margaret Gaunt, and James Gaunt, all of whom died in 1895. The west panel honors John Gaunt, who died in 1831, and Wilmot Gaunt, who died in 1801. Finally, the east panel commemorates William Ogden, who died in 1830, and Ann Ogden.
