Description
Court Farmhouse, now a religious centre, dates from the early 18th century and has undergone alterations and additions in the mid-19th century and late 20th century. The building is constructed of brick, partly handmade, with ashlar dressings. It features a plain tiled roof with parapets at the gable ends, a moulded string course, and a ridge stack on the left end. The farmhouse has two storeys and an attic with dormers, and there is a three-course band between the main storeys.
The west front elevation has three bays and includes 19th-century pilaster buttresses with offsets at each end and on the right side corner return. The windows are all cross-casements, with 19th-century hood moulds and returns; the ground floor windows are 19th-century, while the first-floor windows are 20th-century. There are three flat-roofed 20th-century dormers with 2-light casements. A central gabled brick porch features a parapet at the gable end above a moulded string, a Tudor archway, and a coat of arms at the apex. The side walls of the porch contain lancets, and inside is a 19th-century panelled door with a transom light that has two glazing bars beneath a cambered head. The gable ends also have attic lights.
At the rear, there are 19th-century additions. The property is complemented by cast iron spearheaded railings that run parallel to the front elevation, set on a 2-foot high blue brick plinth with chamfered sandstone coping. The railings are attached to the house at the outer ends by short brick walls and connect to the porch at one end. There is a central gate for each row of railings, featuring cusped detailing and a pierced quatrefoil frieze above the middle rail. Despite the later alterations, Court Farmhouse retains much of its original character and forms a group with the nearby dovecote and attached cow house.
