Description
Nos 2, 4, 5, 7, and 8 Church Row is a row of five houses, originally seven, located in Overbury. The buildings were remodeled in the late 19th century from an 18th century or earlier structure, likely by the architect Richard Norman Shaw for Robert Martin, with further alterations made in the mid-20th century. They are constructed of coursed limestone rubble and feature a plain tiled roof with four brick ridge stacks that have oversailing cap courses. The houses are single storey with an attic and dormers, arranged in seven bays. All windows are leaded casements with two lights, and there are seven ground floor windows along with seven gabled dormers that have moulded architraves. The row includes four lean-to porches supported by shaped moulded brackets on stone corbels, with the westernmost porch being larger and featuring an additional central bracket and two doorways beneath it. The doors are simple ledged and battened types, and the doorway between bays 5 and 6 is now blocked. There is a rear wing attached to the west end bay. The houses face No 1 Church Row and are situated next to the gate piers, gates, and quadrant walls of Overbury Court, which adds to their group value.
