Description

The building is a dovecote, now used as a store, and an attached cow house located about 30 yards north of Court Farmhouse. It dates from the mid- to late 19th century. The dovecote is constructed of brick and features a pyramidal plain tiled roof with overhanging eaves and a square plan. It has two levels; the south elevation, which faces the farmhouse, includes a square light and a doorway at ground-floor level, along with a large central doorway at the upper level, all featuring gauged flat heads. The west and north elevations have a central lancet with ashlar dressings, flanked by blind cruciform slit windows.

At the top, there is a large, elaborately painted timber lantern with a cross-gabled roof. Each face of the lantern has a pointed-arched recess, two rows of plank weatherings, pierced scalloped bargeboards, and moulded finials and pendants at the bases and apexes of the gables, topped with a weathervane. Inside, the ground floor has a parallel tunnel vaulted ceiling aligned north/south.

The cow house adjoins the east elevation of the dovecote and is made of brick with blue brick dressings and a plain tiled roof featuring parapets at the gable ends. It consists of two bays and two levels, with a dentilled eaves cornice. The main south elevation has two wood-mullioned windows and two doorways, all with cambered heads. There is a 2-light 19th-century casement window at the east gable end, along with a 20th-century attic light above. This well-detailed dovecote is prominently situated and has group value with Court Farmhouse.
