Description

The Church of St James is a Grade II* listed building located in Norton Juxta Kempsey. It has Norman origins but underwent significant rebuilding in 1874-1875. The church features a chancel, a nave with a south aisle, a south porch, and a west tower that is embattled in the Perpendicular style. The restoration work in 1874-1875 was carried out by architects Hopkins and Ewan Christian, who also added the south aisle. Notable elements include a Norman south doorway and a small Norman window in the north wall, while the chancel masonry may also date back to the Norman period. The church contains early 19th-century and mid-19th-century monuments.
