Description
Dell Pool Shrine is an early 19th-century structure located about 100 yards south-west of Hadzor Hall. It is built from ashlar stone and features cast iron with boarded infill, topped with a Roman tiled roof. The shrine has a square ashlar plinth and a rear apsidal wall made of ashlar. Each corner is adorned with a slender fluted cast iron column that has an acanthus-moulded capital. The gable ends at the front and rear are pedimented and include cast iron acroteria. The side elevations have painted boarded infill panels and large semi-circular headed windows with leaded glass arranged in a fishscale pattern beneath the arched heads. The front elevation is open, with three steps leading to the interior. Inside, there is a semi-circular headed niche in the rear wall, which features a plinth with a metal plaque commemorating Theodore Hugh Galton and William Joseph Galton, who were killed in the First World War. This structure is an unusual garden building that showcases fine cast ironwork, similar to that of the nearby conservatory.
