Description

33 and 34 Broad Street are two houses, likely once used as shops, that now function as a restaurant. They probably date from the late 18th century, although they may have earlier origins and have undergone later additions and alterations, including a ground floor renovation around 1964. The buildings are constructed of brick in Flemish bond, which is now painted, with stucco and paint applied to the first floor. They feature stone sills, a concealed roof, and end brick stacks with pots. The first floor has 6/6 sash windows with plain reveals and sills, while the second and third floors have 3/3 sash windows, also with plain reveals and sills, and flat arches made of gauged brick. A low coped parapet crowns the structure, and there is a glazed shop front on the ground floor.

The interior has not been inspected. The ground floor forms a continuous unit with No. 35 Broad Street. Historically, by the 16th century, Broad Street was the second most important commercial street after High Street, serving as a direct route through the city from the Worcester Bridge. It housed several significant traders and at least two inns. Some houses on Broad Street are known to have 17th-century and earlier origins, including Nos. 32, 40, 41, and 57.

All the listed buildings on Broad Street form a significant group, including Nos. 10, 10A, 11 with the Crown Inn, 12, 18, 19, 29, 32-36 (consecutive), 40, 41, 43-49 (consecutive), 51-63 (consecutive), 69, 70, and the Church of All Saints. Nos. 29, 32-36 and the Church also form a further group with Nos. 2-22 (consecutive) Bridge Street and No. 2 Quay Street.
