Description
2 and 3 New Street are two houses that have been converted into shops with flats above. They are likely from the early 19th century, with later additions and alterations from the late 19th century. The buildings are constructed of reddish brown brick in Flemish bond, with painted sections on the left, red gauged brick arches, stone sills, and a concealed roof.
The exterior features three storeys with two windows on the first floor and two on the second. The first floor has original 6/6 sash windows, while the second floor has original 3/6 sash windows. All windows have flat arches and stone sills. The ground floor has restored shop fronts, with outer entrances flanked by fluted pilasters and a pair of fluted pilasters on the party wall. There is a central entrance on the left, and the door on the right is part-glazed with two lower flush panels, while the door on the left is boarded and has been replaced. The shop windows are fixed-light with glazing bars set on a panelled plinth, and there is a frieze that ramps at the ends, topped with a cornice. The roof is concealed behind a low, coped parapet. The interior has not been inspected.
