Description
The Market Hall facade, dated 1849, features later additions and is located on New Street in Worcester. The building is constructed of stucco that imitates ashlar over brick. It is a single tall storey with three bays and includes a plinth. At each end, there are giant Doric pilasters, and a central recess contains renewed glazed double doors with a tall multi-pane window above, flanked by two giant half-engaged fluted Doric columns. To the left, there is a tall round-arched opening with a part-glazed door and windows that have glazing bars above, while the right side has a 9-pane window. Above these openings are recessed oblong panels. The columns and pilasters are topped with a continuous frieze, architrave, and a raised parapet at the centre and right, complete with copings. The interior has not been inspected. Historically, New Street was renamed from the medieval Glover Street by 1523, and the Market Hall is a significant feature of the streetscape.
