Description
The stable and hen house, located about 40 yards northwest of Brickhouse Farmhouse and attached to a cider mill, dates from the 17th century with alterations made in the mid-19th century. It features a timber frame with brick infill and replacement walling set on a sandstone base, topped with a half-hipped plain tiled roof. The structure consists of a single framed bay oriented north to south and has two levels. The framing includes three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with truncated collar and tie-beam trusses supported by two struts at the gable ends. On the east elevation, there is a stable door with a loft opening above it. The hen house is a timber-framed lean-to located at the south gable end, featuring a central door on the south elevation and an entry hole at the base. Although the interior has not been inspected, much of the framing has been replaced. The building is prominently situated to the west of the farmyard, adjacent to Brickhouse Farmhouse and the cider mill, as well as the barn and granary, contributing to its group value.
