Description

This listing describes three 19th-century gas street lamps, one of which was made by Hamilton Woods of Manchester.

The first lamp, located at the grid reference SO7687548645, is made of cast iron and features a Windsor lantern. The lantern is tapering and is supported by four scrolled brackets on a flared, reeded capital. It stands on a tapering reeded column with a moulded base, which is set on an octagonal plinth with a flared foot. The ladder rest has reeded arms with moulded finials.

The second lamp, found at SO7692448665, is also constructed of cast iron with a Windsor lantern. It shares similar design elements, including a tapering lantern on four scrolled brackets and a flared, reeded capital. The column is tapering and reeded, extending continuously to a flared foot on a square base. This lamp is by Hamilton Woods of Manchester, and the rear of the shaft displays the cast founder's mark. The ladder rest features reeded arms with moulded finials.

The third lamp, located at SO7705548710, is similarly made of cast iron with a Windsor lantern. It has the same tapering lantern supported by four scrolled brackets on a flared, reeded capital, and a tapering, reeded column that extends to a flared foot on a square base. The ladder rest also has reeded arms with moulded finials.
