Description

Glebe House is a substantial timber-framed and brick house dating from the late 16th century. It has two storeys and an attic, topped with plain tile roofs. The front range features close-set studding with herring-bone brick infill, some of which has been renewed. There are four windows, with 19th-century casements that include top-lights; the first floor has double casements while the ground floor has triple casements. Above the 19th-century timber and tile porch, there is a smaller casement on the first floor. An off-centre brick ridge stack has two diagonal shafts. The rear of the house has three gables, with the outer gables extended in brick during the 17th century. The central gable displays exposed framing. Tall brick diagonal chimney shafts are located on the ridge of the west gable, positioned between the original wing and the 17th-century extension. In the northeast corner, there is a massive stone base for the rear wall chimney of the front range and the side wall chimney of the east gable, with renewed diagonal brick shafts. Inside, there are 16th-century stone fireplaces.
