Description
Malvern View is a house built around 1848, with some alterations and additions made in the late 20th century at the rear. It features a brick structure set on a sandstone base and has a slate roof with ridge end stacks. The building has a rectangular three-bay plan and is a single storey. The main north front is divided into 1:3:1 bays, with the central section slightly projecting forward and topped with a gable that has moulded barge boards supported by shaped brackets. The original windows are preserved throughout, consisting of 2-light casements in the outer bays, while the central part includes a half-glazed door flanked by single-light casements. There is a trefoil opening in the stone triangle at the apex of the gable. A large late 20th-century addition is located at the rear, which serves as the current main entrance. This house is one of 40 similar Chartist houses in Dodford, built primarily on four-acre plots by the Chartist Land Company. Each smallholding was designed to provide the occupant with an independent livelihood and the chance to qualify for a county vote.
