Description
Farm buildings, dating from the early 18th century, with alterations and extensions circa the mid-19th century. The buildings are constructed of red brick with clay plain tile and Welsh slate roofs, featuring gabled ends. The arrangement is in a U-shaped range. The east range originally contained stables and cow-houses, with a loft above. The centre of this range was rebuilt in the mid-19th century and includes a five-bay barn with a central threshing bay on its west side. Additional outshuts were added to the rear (west) and a single-storey range of stables was built to the northeast, forming a stock-yard open to the west. The east elevation displays an asymmetrical arrangement of windows and doors at ground floor and loft level, some with cambered brick arches. Notable features include a blocked elliptical arch with stone imposts and keystone, a cart entrance with plank double doors, and an external stair leading to a loft doorway. The south elevation, belonging to the barn, has ventilation holes and a central cart entrance with a cambered brick arch and plank double doors. The rear (north) elevation is similar, with a lean-to addition on the west end. The west rear of the east range showcases outshuts with tiled lean-to roofs, and a single-storey range on the north side of the yard features elliptical arch doorways. The barn’s interior has a 19th-century five-bay tie-beam roof with queen-posts and raking struts. The loft above the south end of the east range has timber-framed partition walls and an exposed wind-brace; the north end is partly open to the roof and the centre has a cow-house with an arcaded brick trough and wooden manger.
